Tech that will make your life easier in the garden

garden tech

In life, there is nothing better than discovering something that will make your life easier. The day smart lights were launched was the day you never needed to get up and turn the lights off in your living room when you forget. Or when Google released their Google Home, you never forgot to add something to your shopping list, as you can quickly ask Google to add it for you.

When it comes to the garden, there are a myriad of things that you can buy to make your life easier. A battery operated lawn mower takes away the hassle of having to get an extension lead (there is nothing more frustrating). Going back to lighting, solar lights mean you never need to change a battery again, and tables that double up as a drinks cooler mean you can relax and not need to go to the fridge whenever you need another drink.

Start making your life in the garden easier. Below, we have put together a guide on tech that will make your life easier in the garden.

Solar lights

Lights are incredibly useful at changing the way your garden looks and making it feel like a more relaxing space. You can use lights in many ways. You can use lights to highlight pathways, you can use lights to highlight key areas of your garden, as well as to make a space more usable, such as your decking. They are fairly affordable and easy to install – especially solar lights. Solar lights are great as they don’t require you to change the batteries every few months. They simply charge when it’s sunny and then light up when it gets dark.

An alternative to solar lights is smart lights. These lights will make your life easier in the garden as well as you can control smart lights through an app on your phone or through your voice. They are weatherproof, can also be used indoors sometimes, and, just like solar lights, are easy to install. If you have never tried smart lighting before, the best thing to do is visit your local DIY store and see if they have any that they can demonstrate for you.

Battery operated lawn mower

There is nothing more frustrating than needing to mow the lawn but having to search through your cupboards to find an extension lead long enough to allow you to mow your whole garden. Battery-operated lawn mowers are great for that reason alone; they operate on batteries, not an extension lead. You can simply charge your batteries and off you go, tidying up your garden. When buying a battery operated lawn mower, make sure you research the amount of time it can operate on one charge and buy a couple of batteries if your garden is particularly big.

Cooler table

Cooler tables are one of the best things to ever be invented. They are brilliant as you can use them as a table to place your drinks on, but you can also pop the lid, and you have a cooler inside, keeping all your cans or bottles cold. They look great in the garden, and no longer do you need to run to the fridge every time you finish your drink and want another cold can.

Outdoor speaker system

You may not initially think of a speaker system making your life easier in the garden, but when you think about it, it does. Music is a great motivator, whether you are listening to music while doing the housework or while working on a project, it can help you concentrate as well as make the task at hand a lot easier. In the garden, a good Spotify or Apple Music playlist can make the day go a lot quicker, especially when you aren’t in the mood to be working on the garden at that moment in time.

Smart plant sensors

Knowing exactly what your plants need can be difficult, especially if you’re new to gardening – being honest, it can be a nightmare! Smart plant sensors are great at solving this problem. These small devices are placed in the soil and measure moisture levels, light exposure, and sometimes temperature. The data is sent straight to an app on your phone, letting you know when your plants need watering or moving to a sunnier spot. This really helps with looking after your plants and helps make your garden look nicer with less effort needed. A garden with plants that are dying or are dead looks a lot worse than a garden that is thriving with beautiful plants that are blossoming nicely.

Smart watering system

Finally, a smart watering system. Watering your garden can be a pain, just like mowing your lawn can be a pain. Luckily, there is some tech out there that can make this a little easier for you. Smart watering systems allow you to automate when and how your garden is watered, removing the need to remember schedules or stand outside with a hose. You can control them via an app on your phone and adjust their operation according to the weather conditions for that week. This will not only save you time, but it will also help you maintain a healthy garden. Plus, if you like growing your own food, this will make it a lot easier for you – growing your own food is an easier way to be healthy.

Whether inside your home, at work, or in your garden, technology is constantly developing and making our lives easier. In fact, new pieces of tech are being released weekly, so every few months, spend some time doing your research and see if you can be helped in any other ways. Using technology to help your day-to-day activities is so beneficial, and in a lot of cases, the tech isn’t as expensive as you may have thought it would be.

What tech have you recently come across that you think will help others look after their garden? Which of the above suggestions do you think is most beneficial? Is there any tech that we haven’t mentioned that you would like our readers to know about? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
