I have been in commercial and institutional construction for 21 years, 7 of them managing crews, and most of that time has gone on roofs and waterproofing. I started on the tools, roofing in Ottawa, then spent 2 years as a field technician for SOPREMA Canada out of the Toronto office before I took the superintendent job at Atlas-Apex Roofing in 2025. In between I went back to Algonquin College for architectural technology and got my BCIN for small buildings, so I can design and inspect as well as build. I run RLT Design, Construction & Development on the side and I am waiting on my HCRA registration to start building houses myself. The parts of a house I care about are the ones you pay for every month, the heat pump, the radiant heat, a roof that does not need doing twice, and I will talk about green roofs to anyone who stands still long enough.
