Pale candles suit it best. Ivory, white, a soft pink if you want to match. A dark red one looks nice in the product photo but in a real room it fights with the bow.
Rinse with plain water, pat dry with a soft cloth. No scrubber, it will scratch the glass.

Packed in a padded box, but glass is glass, so please open it and check the moment it arrives. If it comes broken, send us a photo the same day and we’ll replace it, courier charge on us. Glass, all of it. Clear stem, clear base and a pink bow sitting about halfway up that is also glass, blown into the stem, not glued on after. You can see straight through the bow when the light hits from behind, which is the whole point of the thing. It looks like something out of a fancy wedding décor setup but it costs a fraction of what those rental walas charge.
Size is around 22 cm tall with a base about 9 cm across. The cup on top takes a standard taper candle, the long thin type, and it grips a normal 2 cm one without any wobble. Thicker candles won’t go in, don’t force it. Tealights don’t work with this one at all, there is no dish.
The pink of the bow changes with the light. Morning sun through a window it looks almost lilac, under a warm bulb in the evening it goes a proper rose. Photos on this page were taken in both, so what you see is roughly the range you will get.
I’ll be honest about where it works. Dining table, yes, one at each end. Dressing table, yes. A bookshelf, yes. A wide side table near the sofa where somebody’s elbow will find it, no. It is glass with a thin stem and it will not survive a fall onto tiles. It weighs next to nothing so a strong fan or a running child will move it. Keep it on a cloth or a tray, and keep it out of the kids’ reach when the candle is lit.

About the finish. We sell it as antique gold but anyone from a brass-using family will look at it and say pital. The colour runs from bright yellow on the cup rims where the hands touch it to a dark brown in the joints and no two come out the same. If you want it to shine like a new Moradabad piece you can take Brasso and a rag to it and it will come up bright in an hour. If you want it to look like it came out of a nani's house, leave it alone. I'd leave it alone.
Where it works. Dining table centre for Eid dinners and Diwali evenings, a sideboard in the drawing room, the console at the entrance if your entrance is wide. It also goes well on a floor in a corner beside a big plant, at 40 cm it has enough height to hold it's own down there. Not for a small flat where the dining table is also the study desk, it will annoy you within a week.
Wipe with a dry cloth. Brasso if you want shine, nothing if you want age. Scrape wax off with a wooden spatula, not a knife.

Cuthbert Mouse Candle Holder
There is a tealight version of Cuthbert too, same mouse, but holding a round dish instead of a cup and with his tail curling round underneath as the base. If you prefer tealights to dinner candles, that is the one to pick.
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. No polish, no water, no scrubber, all of that will strip the antique finish and leave you with a shiny silver mouse.
