Richmond Luxor Oval Dining Table In Brown

The top of the table is oval with rounded ends, and its polish is so deep that the sky and the chairs show in it like a mirror, as you can see in the photos. The wood has a warm red brown color with the grain moving across it in waves. Around the edge there is a moulded border and below it a plain wooden band runs all the way round.

The top is made in sections. If you look at it from above, you can see the lines where 2 middle leaves sit between the 2 rounded ends. On the side of the table there is a small round brass plate, which is where the handle goes to open and close the table, so it can be made shorter for daily use and longer when guests come.

Underneath, the base is the part that makes this table special. In the middle there are 2 thick turned pillars with round bulb shapes carved into them and around them stand 4 thinner turned posts. All of these sit on curved legs that spread out to the floor, with carved scrolls at the top and curled feet at the ends. Each foot has a small castor wheel, so the table can be moved without dragging it.

Each Chair Has A Tall Cane Back

The 8 chairs are made of oak in a slightly lighter brown than the table. Their backs are very tall and the top of each back is carved in a pointed shape with a wavy, stepped edge. The middle of the back is woven cane, which lets air through, so you do not feel hot sitting for a long dinner. At the bottom of the cane there is another carved piece with a curved cut in it.

The seats are covered in brown leather and a line of round brass studs goes around each seat. The legs are turned and they are joined low down with wooden bars in an H shape, which keeps the chairs very steady.

2 of the chairs are armchairs, with carved scroll ends on the armrests. These are made for the 2 heads of the table.
