Buy this for a room that already has something old in it. A rosewood chest, a brass lamp, your grandmother’s Tanjore, a jhoola. The curtain will pick up the age of those things and look like it was there first. In a very new flat with a glass dining table and a grey modular sofa it can look like a costume, and I’d steer you to the Petal and Plume instead.
The spec, since I know you’ll scroll to it. Two curtains per pack, eight steel eyelets each, 5, 7 or 9 ft long, all 4 ft wide, 260 gsm polyester, digital print, no lining, regular light blocking. It cuts glare and gives you privacy after dark, it will not make a bedroom pitch black at noon. Cold wash, shade dry, iron low from the back. Rod and tieback not in the pack.
The tall pointed tree is a cypress, saru in the old books and if it looks familiar it is because you have seen it carved in white marble at the Taj and painted on the borders of every Mughal miniature you have ever been shown. Shah Jahan’s people put it on everything. Beside it are the flowering butas, the little bunches that Sanganer and Bagru printers have been stamping on cotton for three hundred years, first for the Jaipur court and now for every Fabindia in the country. So this is not a curtain with an Indian print on it. This is the print, the one all the others are copies of, in its own colours, pink and maroon and teal on an unbleached cream.
The motifs sit apart from each other with cloth between them, a tree, a gap, a flower, a gap. That spacing is the reason it does not look busy even though every motif is detailed. From the doorway the curtain is mostly cream with colour scattered on it. Up close each buta has its own stem and leaves drawn separately.

Things worth knowing before you order:
- The white is white. Not cream, not off-white. In a flat on a main road it will show dust at the hem within a few months. Wash it, it comes back. Just know it.
- Two curtains in the pack, eight eyelets each. A window takes the pack. A balcony door takes the pack. A wide sliding door takes two.
- 5 ft, 7 ft or 9 ft long, all 4 ft wide. Measure from the rod, not the frame.
- Polyester, medium weight, no lining. Light filtering. In the evening with the lights on it is private, in the day it glows.
- Cold wash, shade dry, iron from the back on low. Black does not run on this one, I have washed the shop sample four times.
- Tieback and rod not included.
The name, before someone asks. Petal and plume, flowers and feathers. Look at the print long enough and the leaves start to look like both, which I think is the point, though I would not swear to what the artist meant.
Poppy Flower Full Length Curtain
Where it works. A room with plain walls and plain furniture, because the poppies are the loud thing and they need quiet around them. Cream or grey sofa, yes. A red sofa, no, unless you want the room to shout. It looks especially good with the balcony door open and the breeze moving it, which in Bangalore is most of the year.
Wash it cold, gentle cycle or hand wash in a bucket, the red does not run but hot water and a hard press will dull it. Dry in shade. Iron print side down on the polyester setting. Do not bleach, obviously, the cream will go yellow and the red will go orange.

Monochrome Palms Window Curtain
Where it goes. Bedroom, because the grey is calm and does not fight with the bedsheet whatever the bedsheet is. A study. A bathroom window if it is the kind with a rod. It suits cane and rattan furniture more than anything else on the site, and if you have a money plant climbing the window grill, the two look like they were planned together.
Cold machine wash, gentle. Shade dry. Iron print side down on the polyester setting. Grey on white shows every stain so wash it a bit more often than you would a dark curtain.
