Description

So the first time you look at this curtain, you mostly see color, yellow and red and blue everywhere on a cream background. You have to go closer to see that it is all birds.

These are small round birds, like the ones sitting on the wall outside in the morning, sparrows, robins, that kind of bird. And the birds are painted, not printed like a photo. The color is put on kind of loosely, like watercolor, and in a few places it goes outside the line of the bird. Then on top of the color there are thin black lines for the eye, the beak, the feathers on the wing and the small legs. So each bird looks like somebody sat and painted it by hand.

Now, the colors of the birds. Every bird is a little different, but mostly you will see these:

  • Yellow birds with bright blue wings and blue tails, there are a lot of these
  • Red and orange birds with a brown back, like a robin
  • Small birds with a pink red head and a yellow or brown body
  • Some olive green and mustard ones
  • A few light blue and turquoise birds that are only half painted, just the outline and a little color inside

The birds are not all sitting the same way either. Some are looking left, some are looking right, a few have turned their head back over the shoulder, and some are leaning forward like they are going to jump off the branch. The branches are thin and dark brown, and most of them go across the curtain at an angle, same with the long blue tails, so your eye keeps going up and down the curtain.

In between the birds there are small pointed leaves, one brush stroke each, in sage green, olive and a yellowish green. There is very little empty cream left, only small patches here and there.

Now, the thing about a print like this is that it repeats. Stand close and look, you will find the same yellow and blue bird again a little lower down, and the same red robin again below that. From the sofa you will not notice it at all, you just see birds.

At the top there are dark bronze metal eyelets, put straight into the printed fabric. There is no plain strip at the top, so the birds go right up to the rings. The rod goes through the rings, the curtain falls in deep folds like in the photo, and you can open and close it with one pull.

So is it too much? On a plain white or cream wall, like in the photo, no, it looks really nice. But if the room already has a flowery rug, printed cushions and wallpaper, then yes, it will be too much, there is just too much going on. Kids love this one, they stand there counting the birds.

The sizes, all of them are 4 ft wide. 5 ft is for a normal window, 7 ft for a door, 9 ft for a tall glass door or a high ceiling. Measure from your rod down to where you want the curtain to stop, and go with the closest one.

And before ordering, look at your sofa and cushions. If you already have something yellow or royal blue in the room, this curtain will pick it up straight away. If everything in the room is grey or brown, the birds will be the only color in there, and you have to be ok with that.
